In
the western part of Hawaii below the Hualalai Volcano is the
city of Kailua-Kona. Kailua-Kona has always been considered a
great place to live because of the surrounding water there and
the great weather. The climate in Kona is near perfect with the
year round high is 87F and the year round low is 64F.
One of the most well known events in the area is the yearly Ironman
Triathlon. This event starts just beyond Kailua Pier and requires
participants to swim 2.4 miles. They then take to biking through
numerous lava fields and other rough terrain and is 112 miles
end to end. The final stage of the Triathlon requires them to
run the next 26 miles through the same rugged terrain to the
finish line.

Kailua-Kona is also host to the Hawaiian International Billfish
Tournament which has become world famous with big game fishermen.
This tournament is open to the public and costs between $3,700.00
for a two angler team up to $5,000.00 for a six angler team.
A charter boat can also be rented for the event for an additional
$5,000.00.
